Patient Assistance Program Directory

Manufacturer copay cards and patient assistance programs for the medicines used to treat skin cancer — grouped by drug class, with every program in a class listed side by side.

How to use this directory

Almost every branded skin cancer drug has some form of cost help from its maker. There are two kinds, and which one applies to you depends on your insurance:

  • •Commercial insurance → a copay card. Reduces your copay or coinsurance for a brand-name drug, often to near $0, up to an annual cap. By federal law these cannot be used if any part of your drug coverage is Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, VA, or the Department of Defense.
  • •Uninsured or underinsured → a patient assistance program (PAP). Provides the drug free or at low cost if your household income is under the program’s limit.
  • •In-office drugs — infusions, photodynamic therapy, intralesional injections, cell therapy — are billed under your medical benefit, not your pharmacy benefit. The manufacturer’s support team works through your treating practice, so start with your care team’s billing or navigation office.
  • •On Medicare or Medicaid? Manufacturer copay cards are off-limits, but the independent charitable foundations below can help when they have an open fund for your diagnosis.

Dollar figures, phone numbers, and eligibility rules change often. Treat every entry as a starting point and confirm the current terms with the program directly.

How this list is built

For each drug class, we list every manufacturer’s program — not only the drug a visitor came looking for. If one Hedgehog pathway inhibitor is here, both are. If one PDT photosensitizer is here, all are. If one BRAF/MEK combination is here, all three are.

This site takes no payment from any manufacturer for inclusion, placement, or wording on this page, and no program listed here has reviewed or approved it. Listing a program is not a recommendation of that product; treatment choices belong with you and your physician.

Topical field therapy for actinic keratosis and early skin cancer

Creams, gels, and ointments applied at home to treat actinic keratoses and, for some agents, superficial basal cell carcinoma or Bowen disease. Most are available as low-cost generics; the newer branded agents carry manufacturer savings programs.

Diclofenac sodium 3% geldiclofenac (Solaraze and generics)
Manufacturer: Multiple manufacturers

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratosis.

Commercial insurance: Available as a generic on most formularies. No dedicated manufacturer program; a pharmacy discount card (GoodRx, SingleCare, NeedyMeds) is usually the lowest cash price.

Fluorouracil topical5-fluorouracil (Carac, Efudex, Fluoroplex, Tolak, and generics)
Manufacturer: Multiple manufacturers (Bausch Health, Mayne Pharma, others)

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratosis; Efudex is also used for superficial basal cell carcinoma.

Commercial insurance: Generic 5-FU cream is inexpensive and widely covered. There is no single manufacturer assistance program; Tolak (Mayne Pharma) has periodically offered a commercial copay coupon.

Uninsured or underinsured: Use a pharmacy discount card (GoodRx, SingleCare, NeedyMeds) or ask the prescriber to write for generic fluorouracil.

Imiquimod creamimiquimod (Aldara and generics; Zyclara)
Manufacturer: Multiple manufacturers; Zyclara by Bausch Health

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratosis; imiquimod 5% is also used for superficial basal cell carcinoma.

Commercial insurance: Generic imiquimod 5% is low-cost. Zyclara (3.75% / 2.5%) is brand-only and Bausch Health does not publish a patient assistance program for it — ask the pharmacy for a discounted cash price (GoodRx, SingleCare, NeedyMeds) or the prescriber about generic imiquimod.

Klisyritirbanibulin ointment 1%
Manufacturer: Almirall

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratosis of the face or scalp (5-day course).

Commercial insurance: Almirall Advantage card: eligible commercially insured patients may pay as little as $25. If the plan does not cover Klisyri, as low as $150 at retail or $95 at an Almirall Advantage Network pharmacy.

Uninsured or underinsured: Ask about the Almirall patient assistance pathway for uninsured patients.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) photosensitizers

A photosensitizing drug is applied in the office, then activated with blue or red light to treat actinic keratoses and field cancerization. Because PDT is delivered and billed as an in-office procedure, cost help runs through the treating practice and the manufacturer’s reimbursement team.

Ameluzaminolevulinic acid HCl gel 10% (with the BF-RhodoLED lamp)
Manufacturer: Biofrontera

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratoses of the face and scalp; field therapy.

Commercial insurance: Ameluz PDT is billed under the medical benefit. Biofrontera’s reimbursement service verifies benefits, handles prior authorization, and works denials on the practice’s behalf.

Uninsured or underinsured: Ask the treating office to contact Biofrontera about assistance for patients who are uninsured or underinsured.

Phone: 1-844-426-3589 (1-844-4AMELUZ), ext. 7 for reimbursement; reimbursement@bfinc.com · us.ameluz.com

Levulan Kerastickaminolevulinic acid HCl topical solution 20% (with blue-light PDT)
Manufacturer: DUSA Pharmaceuticals, a Sun Pharma company

Used in skin cancer for: Actinic keratoses of the face, scalp, and upper extremities.

Commercial insurance: DUSA provides benefits verification and reimbursement support to treating practices; because Levulan PDT is delivered in the office, cost questions go through the practice.

Uninsured or underinsured: For the medication itself, ask about Sun Pharma’s patient assistance program for uninsured patients.

Metvixia / Metvixmethyl aminolevulinate cream
Manufacturer: Galderma

Status: FDA-approved but not currently marketed in the United States. Widely used for PDT in Europe.

Independent copay foundations (Medicare, Medicaid, and other government insurance)

Federal anti-kickback law bars manufacturer copay cards for anyone with government drug coverage. Independent charitable foundations fill that gap — but only when they have an open fund that matches your diagnosis. Funds open and close as donations allow, so check back if one is closed today.

The Financial & Insurance Navigator explains what each foundation covers and how the funding cycles work.

If a drug isn’t listed here

New drugs and new indications arrive faster than any static list. To check a specific medication — including chemoprevention drugs like acitretin, supportive-care medicines, or a drug used off-label — search these directories, or ask your cancer center’s financial navigator or specialty pharmacy to run a full assistance search. They do this every day.
